A guardian is the person you trust to raise your children if both parents or legal guardians pass away. You can name one person or two people acting together, plus backups. Appointing a guardian isn't legally required, but it's one of the most important decisions in your will, since it makes sure your kids are cared for the way you'd want.
Step 1: Go to your child guardians
Open your child guardians page, or follow these steps:
Log in to your Willful account.
Click Your documents in the left-hand menu (top right corner on mobile).
Find Last Will and Testament and click Review and edit.
Scroll to Roles & responsibilities and click Edit next to Child guardians.
Don't see Child guardians? It only appears once you've added a minor child to your plan. Add them first under People & pets on your will summary.
Step 2: Choose your child's guardian(s)
Primary: Your first choice for the role. To name co-guardians, like a couple, you can select two people.
Secondary (recommended): Your backups, in case your first choice can't serve. You can select up to two people here too.
Want more backups? Click Add more backups to add another tier.
To choose someone, pick from your existing contacts in the dropdown, or click Add a contact to add someone new without leaving the page.
Keep in mind: guardians only step in if both parents have passed away. If one parent is still living, they'll continue raising your children, so you can't name them as a guardian here.

Step 3: Save your changes
Click Save. Your guardians' names will now show under Roles & responsibilities on your will summary.
Reminder: Any change means you'll need to download, print, sign, and witness your updated will for the changes to be legally valid.
